Anna Taddio

Dr. Anna Taddio is a Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto, and Senior Associate Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. She completed her undergraduate training in pharmacy in 1989 at the University of Toronto and subsequently, a residency in hospital pharmacy at The Hospital for Sick Children in 1990. She completed her Master’s of Science and Doctorate degrees in 1994 and 1997, respectively, at the University of Toronto. Her program of research examines: (1) the short-term and long-term effects of procedural pain in children; (2) the effectiveness and safety of pain management interventions; and (3) evidence based practice and implementation research. Dr. Taddio currently leads a national inter-disciplinary team, Help ELiminate Pain in Kids and Adults (HELPinKids&Adults), investigating and promoting evidence-based pain management during vaccination. In 2015, she led HELPinKids&Adults to the development of clinical practice guidelines about pain mitigation during vaccination that were adopted by the World Health Organization. Dr. Taddio has authored over 200 scientific papers and book chapters and is the recipient of numerous awards recognizing her scholarly and advocacy achievements in pediatric pain. Her research is funded primarily by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the national government funding agency for health research in Canada.
