Counselling and Communication

Vaccines have greatly contributed to reducing the incidence and prevalence of disease, becoming victims of their own success. As the focus shifts from the fear of disease to fear about the safety of vaccines, the role of health care providers in combating these perceptions are vital, now more than ever. Health care providers, including those who immunize and those for whom immunization is not part of their routine practice of care, play an integral role in counselling and communicating about the benefits and safety of vaccines to ensure the continuous success of immunization programs in protecting the public against vaccine-preventable diseases.
